Ahmed Tijani Sanni of Ghana Navy has been adjuged the walker of the year for 2003, after a series of truimphs in competitions in Europe. He also took part in the All African Games in Abuja, Nigeria.
He was selected out of a field of walkers including former best Vincent Assumang, Stanley Braimah,Richard Arthur,Francis Halm, Benjamin Annan, Ekow Rambo, Robert Anim, Atta Bright, Moses Shelly, Thomas Quaicoe , Gerald Nii Armah,Eugene Snyper, John Segbe, Musah Muda, Alex Agyakwa, Kofi Ali, Jeandy Kwoufie and Ebenezer Kyereboah.
Other winners of walking awards for 2003 are Hans Van der Knaap of holland for assisting Ghanaian walkers in diverse ways and also sponsoring Ahmed Tijani Sanni to take part in several competitions.
Mr. Peter Cassidy of U.K Walking Association, Coach Dave McGovern of the World Class of Racewalking in the United States, Mr. K.D Sarkwa of United Kingdom, Mr Khoo chong beng,EL-Wak Keep Fit Club,Ace walker Assumang and Youth, Education and Sports Minister Mr. Kwadwo Baah Wiredu. Also named was Mr George Lutterodt, chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association,Mr. Ernest Obeng of the IAAF T.V department,Mr. Peter Kpodogbe and H.E. Sam Valis Akyeanu.
