A contingent of six Ghanaians and two Nigerian walkers are slated to compete in the prestigious 50km speed walk road competition to take place in Weert, Holland on Sunday 9th March, 2003.
The contingent is made up of four Ghanaian walkers namely Vincent Asumang of the Ghana National Fire Service Ahmed Tijani Sani of the Ghana Armed Forces, Thomas Quaicoe of the Western Region, Yaw Fordjour of the Greater Accra Region, their coach Mr. Albert Nukpezah and the secretary of the Visco walking club plus two Nigerian walkers, in the persons of Odunuga J. Olawale and Adebayo E. Bada.
The invitation was extended to the visco walking club by Ollande Lange Afstand Tippelaars (OLAT), a renowned walking club in the Netherlands who are also taking care of the feeding and accommodation for the period of the contingent’s stay.
The trip was made possible by the kind sponsorship of Uncle Edward Enterprise, Biriwa Beach Hotel, Lexy-Tech Enterprise, Scoo Ltd (sole agents for energizer) Alitalia and several others.
The contingent is expected to fly from Accra on Thursday March 6, 2003 by Alitalia, and will return on Tuesday 11 march, 2003.
It is expected that the walkers will do both Ghana and Nigeria proud.
