Ghana striker Majeed Waris claims his injury situation is as not serious as earlier reported.
The 25-year-old started against Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 on Wednesday but suffered a collision with an opponent and was replaced on 42nd minute as Lorient lost 5-0 to the French capital side.
The situation raised concerns back home that he could miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
“The injury is nothing serious," Waris told Ghanasoccernet.com. "You know I am just returning from an injury and did not want to worsen it.
"I felt some slight pain and didn’t want to force it. That is why I was substituted after the knock but I will return very soon so there should not be fears,” he added.
Waris has scored four goals in his last five league games for Lorient. He also boasts of four goals in 22 appearances for Ghana.
He is expected to play a role in the Black Stars' attacking department at the Afcon, with captain Asamoah Gyan still battling injuries.
Ghana have been paired with Egypt, Uganda and Mali in Group D to be based in Port-Gentil.
