Abdul Majeed Waris has still not been able to score in 13 Ligue 1 matches as he continued to fire blanks in Lorient’s 3-0 loss to Monaco on Friday.
The forward lasted the whole game but could not open his league account nor prevent his side from tasting defeat against a title-chasing Monaco, who now move provisionally atop Ligue 1.
Waris featured from the bench in Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Egypt during the international break and his miseries continued after yet another defeat for Les Merlus.
Lorient needed a win to at least give themselves hope of getting away from the foot of the table, while they are still within touching distance with the sides that lie above them.
Monaco captain Radamel Falcao opened the scoring for the visitors in the 64th minute.
Thomas Lemar doubled the lead minutes later, before Gabriel Boschilia added the third in the closing stages of the encounter.
The defeat leaves Lorient bottom of the log with seven points after 13 matches.
Waris has not scored a league goal this season, his only goal so far this campaign has been a penalty he converted in a French Cup encounter a few weeks ago. His bluntness saw Andre Ayew preferred ahead him in Avram Grant’s team selection against the Pharaohs despite the former only returning from a three-month injury layoff recently.
The 25-year-old will surely need to start hitting the net in order to enhance his chances of making the Africa Cup of Nations squad in January.
Cameroon’s Benjamin Moukandjo and Senegal’s Zargo Toure also featured for Lorient in this game.
