Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo has kicked off the new season impressively, netting a crucial goal for Bournemouth in their 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Bournemouth faced a tough summer after last season's top scorer, Dominic Solanke, moved to Spurs in a deal worth up to £65 million, leaving fans worried about who would step up. Semenyo quickly alleviated those concerns in the season opener.
Trailing 1-0 after Chris Wood's first-half goal for Nottingham Forest, Semenyo made his mark in the 87th minute. He capitalized on a defensive error by Harry Toffolo, whose clearance bounced off Murillo, allowing Semenyo to score from close range and secure a vital point for Bournemouth at the City Ground.
This late equalizer prevented Forest from securing their first win over Bournemouth in nine league meetings and underscored Semenyo's growing importance to the team.
Last season, Semenyo was Bournemouth's second most important player after Solanke, contributing eight Premier League goals and two assists. With Solanke gone, Semenyo has taken on the role of leading the attack.
The 24-year-old, who signed a new five-year contract with Bournemouth in July, 2024 is proving his value once again. Manager Andoni Iraola will rely on the former Bristol City star to consistently deliver goals this season, and with such a promising start, Semenyo looks set to surpass his previous season's performance.
