Former Black Stars striker Junior Agogo is reported to have given up the ghost after a four-year battle with stroke.

Agogo who began his professional career at Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a relatively successful career that saw him play for clubs like Chicago Fire, Queens Park Rangers, Zamalek, and Nottingham Forest among others.

In a career spanning 15 years, Agogo played 350 games, scoring 113 times at club level. However, it is his national performance that shot him to fame and earned him the recognition of one Africa’s finest poachers.

Agogo’s first goal for the Black Stars came in a friendly against Australia in 2006.

He was also among the goal scorers in Ghana’s 4-1 thrashing of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a friendly played Brentford's Griffin Park in London.

Agogo’s claim to fame came in the 2008 Cup of Nations where he starred with his three goals for the Black Stars.

Agogo’s strike made the difference for Ghana in a Group A game against Namibia at the Accra Sports Stadium. The striker went on to score two more goals with against Nigeria and Ivory Coast in that tournament.

He clocked 12 goals in 27 matches for Black Stars between 2006 and 2009.
