Ghanaian sprint star Benjamin Azamati has married his long-time girlfriend and fellow athlete, Raquel Chavez, in a colourful ceremony attended by family and friends.

The couple, who have been together for several years, celebrated their union over the weekend, with videos from the ceremony capturing memorable moments.

Azamati and Chavez met while studying and competing at West Texas A&M University in the United States, where their relationship blossomed alongside their athletics careers.

Chavez, who also competed in track and field, specialised in middle-distance events during her time as an athlete.

Their wedding marks another chapter in a relationship that attracted attention in 2025 after Azamati proposed to Chavez in a romantic yacht proposal near the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

The ceremony featured dancing and a lively jama celebration, with videos from the event showing the newlyweds enjoying the occasion with their guests.

Azamati has established himself as one of Ghana’s leading sprinters, representing the country at major international competitions and making his mark in the 100 metres.
