West Ham United striker, Michail Antonio, has arrived in Ghana for a short visit following the international break on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
In a video sighted by GhanaWeb, the Jamaican was greeted at Kotoka International Airport with a resounding welcome.
A Ghanaian-based West Ham fans group met the striker as he shared a wholesome moment with them before departing to his hotel.
Michail Antonio is set to travel to Kumasi today, November 11 to visit the Kumasi-based football academy, Samba Stars in Bompata.
Speaking with the media on his arrival, Antonio shared his plans for helping Ghanaian young talents pursue their dreams of playing football in Europe.
“We just want to give the boys over here the opportunity to break through to the Premier League. We know about all the talent here. We’ve seen Mo [Kudus] is at the club (West Ham) right now,” he said, as quoted by 3Sports.
He further acknowledged that Ghana has a wealth of talent before emphasizing his desire to get most of them to play in Europe.
“It’s just obviously the talent in the pool that Ghana has and to give the motherland the opportunity to get their players or family over to the UK or worldwide playing football.
"You see the talent with Mo [Kudus] and so many other players moving. It’s just an inspiration for me to be able to give that opportunity to players here,” he continued.
He is expected to spend three days in Ghana on his first-ever visit before traveling to join the Jamaica national team for their upcoming games during the international break.
