Ghana's journey in the 2024 WAFU Zone B championship ended on Saturday, May 25, 2024, after the Black Starlets lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso in the semi-final clash.
The defeat not only brought an end to Ghana’s quest for the trophy but also cost the country a ticket to the African Under-17 championship.
A costly mistake by Ghanaian goalkeeper Emmanuel Armah in the 12th minute allowed Tapsoba to put Burkina Faso in the lead.
Despite the setback, Ghana persevered and managed to equalize through Joseph Narbi, who skillfully curled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
The second half saw the same pattern of play, with Burkina Faso capitalizing on an indecisive moment by the Ghanaian backline to score their second goal in the 48th minute. Tapsoba's second strike of the day put Ghana in a difficult position.
Try as they did, Ghana could not overcome the deficit, and Burkina Faso emerged victorious, securing a place in the competition's final.
Following the defeat, Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston has resigned.
The Ghana Football Association says it has accepted the resignation albeit with some allegations that give insight into the relationship between Kingston and the Football Association.
