Nico Williams up against Italian defender Di Lorenzo
Spanish winger of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams, was sensational in Spain's win over Italy on Thursday, June 21, 2024, in a Group C clash at the ongoing 2024 Euros.
Williams was unplayable on the night as he inspired Spain to a 1-0 win at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
He was a thorn in the side of the Italian defence, creating the game's sole goal after Ricardo Calafiori inadvertently converted his cross from the right into an own goal.
Williams lasted 78 minutes in the game and won the man-of-the-match award. He completed the most dribbles, 4, and created the most chances, also 4.
The win has sent Spain to the next stage of the Euros 2024 with two wins after two games.
They started the tournament with an emphatic 3-0 win over Croatia before the victory over Italy confirmed their progress to the round of 16.
The third and final game of the group stage is now a formality for the Spanish national team.
