Arsenal overcame one of the toughest tests of the 2024/2025 Premier League season, beating Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

The game, which appeared destined for a draw, dramatically ended 2-0 in favor of the Gunners following goals from Belgian forward Leandro Trossard and Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.

Leandro Trossard pounced on a loose ball in the Aston Villa box to give Arsenal the lead before Thomas Partey settled the score with a sweet low curler from a Bukayo Saka cutback.

Aside from the goal, Partey was impressive for the Gunners, who have now won their opening two matches of the new Premier League season.

Deployed in his usual lone six role, the 30-year-old was particularly outstanding in the first half, making the Arsenal team tick with his passes.

While his performance in the second half dropped slightly, he proved crucial as he got the goal that sealed the game for Arsenal.

The goal is Partey’s first for Arsenal since March 2023.

The performance from Partey and his teammates earned them praise from Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta, who believes that his side showed maturity.

Arsenal, who have won their opening two games, are tied on six points with league leaders Manchester City and second-placed Brighton, who have a superior goal difference.
