The journey of Ghanaian sprint duo Benjamin Azamati and Rasheed Saminu in the 100 metres event of the 2024 Olympic Games ended at the semi-final stage as both sprinters could not progress to the final held on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
In his race, which was semi-final 1, Benjamin Azamati finished in 9th place with a time of 10.17.
Jamaica's Oblique Seville came first in the race, clocking a time of 9.81, while 2020 Olympic bronze medalist from the USA, Noah Lyles, placed 2nd with a time of 9.83.
In the other semi-final involving a Ghanaian sprinter, Rasheed Saminu emerged seventh with a time of 10.08 seconds.
Jamaica's Kishane Thompson secured first place with a time of 9.80 seconds, followed by American Fred Kerley, who finished with a time of 9.84 seconds.
The final of the men’s 100 metres saw American sprinter Noah Lyles walk the talk by winning gold in the race.
Lyles, who had been vocal about his chances prior to the games, overcame Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by the tightest of margins to win the race.
Noah Lyles had to produce a personal best of 9.79 seconds to win the race.
That was the same time as Olympic debutant Thompson, who led for most of the race, but Lyles produced a spectacular finish to successfully begin his bid for a potential four golds at these Games.
The United States' former world champion Fred Kerley took bronze in 9.81, edging out South Africa's Akani Simbine for the podium.
After a lengthy wait behind the start line to a backdrop of dramatic music in a frenzied atmosphere at Stade de France, all eight finalists finished within 0.12 seconds of Lyles in a remarkable race.
