The Black Star says his outfit should have won an Afcon trophy in the past few years to reward the nation

Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has lamented their woes at the Africa Cup of Nations in recent years.

Since winning their last of four titles in 1982, the Black Stars have endured a series of near misses despite making the semi-finals at the last six tournaments, progressing to final on two occasions.

“It's been over 34 years since we won,” Badu told Peace FM.

“It is very disappointing because we have been making it to the semis in the last five or so editions, so I will say we have disappointed the country.

“I think if you ask me, I will say we have failed the country, not only the country but we have failed ourselves as well."

A member of Ghana's gold-winning side at the 2009 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, Badu says the Black Stars have not given up on putting smiles on the faces of Ghanaians.

“All hope is not lost. I believe and have confidence in this team and I know we will surely win," the Udinese midfielder added.

“We the players are disturbed because we have a WhatsApp group and we normally talk about this issue.”

Ghana lost to Egypt in the final of the 2010 Afcon before falling on penalties at the same stage against Cote d'Ivoire in 2015.

Badu, who was recently ignored for Ghana's games with Ethiopia, Mexico and the USA, has represented the side at the 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017 continental gatherings.
