Wilson Asare, the youth coach for Asante Kotoko, has lauded the unwavering support of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the club’s owner and life patron. He emphasized that this backing fuels a commitment to deliver success and honor the king’s trust.
In August 2023, Asante Kotoko embarked on a groundbreaking venture that marked the dawn of a new era in football development.
The club unveiled an ambitious plan to launch its very own youth team, designed to nurture and refine the talents of the next generation of football prodigies.
The support garnered from management and, especially, from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has inspired Head Coach Wilson Asare to do more.
During an interview on Asante Kotoko’s YouTube channel, he pledged not to let the King of Asanteman down.
“The support from management, from the king himself, has been so positive and we don’t have to let him down, we don’t have to take our eyes off it and make sure we keep accelerating but with caution,” he said.
According to Asare, the absence of a youth team in previous years necessitated a careful and solid start to ensure long-term success.
“Because the youth team had been absent for a longer time, we needed to take our time to get a very solid foundation so that moving forward, it wouldn’t be shaky,” he further stated.
This initiative is part of Asante Kotoko’s broader commitment to football development in Ghana. In line with these efforts, the club has also partnered with Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies FC to form a female team.
This move aligns with the Ghana Football Association’s club licensing requirements, highlighting Kotoko’s holistic approach to football development.
