Former Asante Kotoko forward Saddick Adams has opened up on his friendship with Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper David De Gea Quintana.
According to Adams, his friendship with De Gea started in 2007 after Spain defeated Ghana 2-1 at the semi-final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Korea.
Their friendship strengthened one year after the World Cup when Adams joined Atletico Madrid youth side where De Gea was playing. Adams featured in 22 games and netted nine times for the Los Rojiblancos before leaving in 2009.
“He (De Gea) is my friend from Atletico Madrid youth side. We (Ghana) also met them (Spain) at the U-17 World Cup in Korea and we got to know ourselves so after the tournament and we met at the Atletico Madrid we became close,” he revealed in an interview with Don Summer on Kumasi-based Angel FM.
“We don’t talk on the phone (calls) but we normally chat on Twitter and Instagram. De Gea is the closest friend among my teammates at Atletico Madrid but he is not too active on social media”
The former Berekum Chelsea man became the first Asante Kotoko player in 34-years after Opoku Nti to score a hat-trick against Hearts of Oak during the Reds’ 3-1 win over the Phobians in the MTN FA Cup final in Tamale.
Saddick Adams currently is a free agent after ending his contract with Ashantigold in the Ghana premier league while De Gea plies his trade in the English premier league for Manchester United after leaving Atletico Madrid in 2011.
