We did not conduct due diligence - Project Coordinator

Fred Darko, Project Coordinator for Brazil 2014 World Cup, has admitted that, they did not conduct due diligence on the selected travel and tours companies before granting them the right to airlift football fans to Brazil.

He told the Presidential Commission of Inquiry, investigating the participation of Ghana at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, that the three travel and tours lacked the needed expertise to handle the task.

The three travel and tours, Kenpong Travel and Tours, African Origin Travel and Sports Tourism and Travel Matters were contracted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) to airlift football fans to Brazil to support the Black Stars.

Darko, who is the Managing Director of Evolution International, said they failed to examine the bank accounts of the travel and tours to assess their financial capacity to pre-finance the trip.

“These were some of the things we did not do. We did not go into details of their financial capacity,” he stated.

Sitting was however adjourned abruptly due to power outage.
