Mr. Ben Nunoo-Mensah, the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has said, his administration has created an enabling working environment since he took over in the last two years.
He said, offices of the GOC was now up to the standard of the National Olympic status, having secured sponsorship for office furniture, carpet among others, which has now put the office in an ultra-modern state.
Speaking to the GNA Sports in an interview, Mr Nunoo-Mensah said, they have lifted some burdens on the Ministry of Youth and Sports by seeking for sponsorship to support the federations.
“We have also ensured that, the Ministry of Youth and Sports does not bear the total cost of our participation in international games.
“The GOC to look for sponsorship for the Youth Games and the Commonwealth Games in Australia,” he said.
The President said, they are currently having talks with the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to support them in the Amasaman Olympic complex project.
“We are currently having discussion with GNPC and the IOC to support the project that has been abandoned for the past 50 years”, he said.
Mr. Nunoo-Mensah said, they have made the other lesser known sports such as, netball, badminton and others, popular in the media and it has helped them to be able to attract sponsorship.
On his part, he said the GOC was also putting in measure to ensure that, the athletes for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics get adequate preparations.
He added that they had ran coaching courses for most of the national federation coaches and have also secured a scholarship for some of the athletes.
