The playing body of the national senior female team, the Black Queens have threatened to quit playing for Ghana after their bonus row with government is finally settled.

The Black Queens are demanding $11,000 each from the Sports Ministry for winning gold at the All Africa Games, but the ministry has dismissed their request saying it has no funds to meet their demands.

Sources close to the Ghana Football Association have revealed to Starr News that the Queens’ budget for the competition stated that each player would earn $3,000 for qualification from the group stage, $3,000 for advancing from the semi-final to the grand-finale and $5,000 for winning the tournament summing up to a total of $11,000 for each member of the playing body.

The gold medalists had initially refused their proposed package of $ 2000 in Congo and upon arrival have refused to leave the M-Plaza Hotel in Roman Ridge in Accra since Sunday.

The long stay in the Hotel is in protest of their unsettled AAG qualification bonus and prize money.

Black Queens captain Mercy Myles told Starr News that they will continue to stay at the hotel until what is rightfully theirs is paid.

“We are just making sure that what is rightfully ours, we take it before we go, then we advise ourselves as players because it is so glaring that the environment is not favouring some of us.

“We cannot devote all our time to the nation and at the end, what we do is not even recognized…because as a woman you cannot play football your entire life,” Myles told Starr News in an interview.
