Chief Executive Officer of Ashantigold Sporting Club, Kojo Fiano has admitted that the Obuasi-based outfit would need financial support from government if they decide to participate in the 2015 Africa Inter Club Competition.

Ashgold, which finished fourth last season in the local league, is awaiting a decision from its board on the club’s participation in the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Confederations Cup competition.

This was after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) sent a letter to the miners and three other Clubs Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions and Hearts of Oak last week, issuing November 25, as deadline for a response on their participation in continental competition.

Clubs that will win the CAF Confederations Cup earn 625,000 dollars after spending close to 600,000 dollars on the campiagn.

Kudjoe Fianoo believes governmental support will be needed to fund the Obuasi-based Club if they decide to compete in Africa this year.

“When I was with GHALCA, we made some representation to government to come to our aid and one of the conditions was for government to control gates proceeds but two big guys refused so we couldn’t make any advances into that decision. “Not long ago, the government tried to come up with a revolving fund, some clubs went in for the monies for Africa but refused to pay back so I don’t know what actually happened to that facility,” Mr. Fianoo told Starr 103.4 FM”.
