We’ll solve football problems in Ghana - Nduom

In the wake of happenings in Ghana football, Fearsome Elmina Sharks owner, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has stressed that club owners will not take a back seat but will work with the stakeholders with a sense of urgency to help solve the problems facing football in the country.

Addressing media persons in Accra on Thursday morning, Dr Nduom pointed out that even before Anas’ Number 12 exposé, it was evident Ghana football was bedevilled with loads of challenges.

These, he said, included lack of enthusiasm and significant sponsorship for the local league.

He went on to add that there was also the problem of inadequate financial reward for the clubs and the various stakeholders in football, noting that the quality of some of the pitches was also questionable.

In the estimation of Dr Nduom, there was no one-party solution to the problems saddling football in the country, adding that government alone cannot do it all.

“Government of Ghana, FIFA, football administrators and club owners must all sit down and arrive at a solution to the problems that have engulfed football in the country,” he averred.

Against this backdrop, the Fearsome Elmina Sharks owner expressed the readiness of club owners to work with the government, FIFA and all other relevant stakeholders and bodies to ensure that these problems are addressed.

He said club owners have invested heavily in football, adding that it will not bode well for the game for them to be relegated to the background.

Furthermore, Dr Nduom indicated that there was more club owners could bring to the table to make football attractive for the millions of Ghanaian football fans.

He also reiterated his call for reforms in football administration in the country.

“The GFA statutes must be corrected because of some difficulties, errors that are in there,” Dr Nduom urged.

That notwithstanding, he stressed the need for the football league to be “reborn and restructured.”

According to him, if these measures were not taken “there can be no proper football in Ghana.”
