Sunderland are not trying to sign Swansea City forward Andre Ayew, Sam Allardyce has insisted.

The Sunderland boss earlier this week confirmed his intention to sign a defender and an attacking player having already recruited Jan Kirchoff, Steve Harper and Dame N'Doye.

Lamine Kone became that latest defensive recruit when he signed on Wednesday and the Sunderland boss has confirmed attention now switches to bolstering his frontline, but with no move for Ayew

"There's been no contact between us and Swansea for us to make an offer," said Allardyce.

"We haven't made an offer to them for that, and I don't think Swansea would want to sell him. I think that's a bit of speculation on the media's behalf.

"I can't say any more than that because he's a Swansea player. We are not allowed to speculate any more on that in case we get fined.

"We are looking at options abroad, as always. There's not many available in this country."

Allardyce, who has let Sebastian Coates leave for Sporting Lisbon on loan after this week deal for Kone, says the club will remain busy until deadline day and are interested in loaning Arsenal's Mathieu Debuchy.

Speaking ahead of his side's clash with Manchester City next Tuesday, Allardyce said: "Every day is a very active day and has been since January 1.

"Anyone else that comes in will be the right sort of quality on the basis of; what can we do? How can we do it? Can we get it over the line?"
