Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso
Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has said the senior national football team is not worried about disagreements between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association in the lead up to their final 2017 Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday September 3 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Foreign-based Ghanaian players invited for the AFCON qualifier had to foot their own air tickets after the Ministry of Youth and Sports made it clear there was no money to fund their flight back home for the game.
This, together with concerns over winning bonuses and recent comments by the sector Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye that the Ghana Premier League is unattractive, has generated tensions between the GFA and the Ministry.
Many sports pundits have said the ruckus between the two sectors could affect the Black Stars in their game against Rwanda but Wakaso has allayed such fears.
The Panathinaikos star told Class Sports: “We are not worried at all as you can see from our training. We are well concentrated for the game ahead of us and so that is the most important thing for us now.”
The Black Stars will continue training today at the Accra Sports Stadium with some foreign-based players yet to report to camp.
