Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has promised Ghana’s president-elect John Dramani Mahama that the national team will win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations to add to his celebrations.
President Mahama was declared winner of the December 7 elections after polling 50.70% of the total valid votes cast as against the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo, who managed 47.74%.
In his congratulatory message to the National Democratic Congress leader, the Al-Ain striker said: “I want to congratulate President John Mahama on his election and also congratulate Ghanaians for ensuring a peaceful election.”
“Ghanaians should enjoy and cherish this moment and hopefully there will be more enjoyment when we win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.”
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group B against Mali, Niger and DR Congo in the 2013 Nations Cup as they seek to end a 31-year-old drought without the continental trophy.
