Liberia star George Weah has allegedly offered Ghana money to lose their forthcoming World Cup qualifier.
Reports have suggested that the former World Player of the Year approached the Black Stars in an attempt to bribe them ahead of the crucial clash between the two sides on Sunday.
However, in today's edition of the Graphic Sports newspaper, they say that the focus of the allegations should be shifted to the players.
The paper alleges that Liberia have offered some of Ghana's top stars $US 300,000 to under perform and lose the game.
In an interview, the Welfare officer of the Black Stars, Mr. Kojo Fianoo, denied the allegation and said that the rumour may have started in Nigeria, who are currently competing with Ghana for a place in the 2002 World Cup finals. Fianoo added that he was pleased that the story had come into the limelight, but to further confuse the press he also said that Ghanaian star Jacob Nettey had been dropped because he was implicated in the scandal.
