Abubakari Taylor, deputy coach of the national weightlifting team
Abubakari Taylor, deputy coach of the national weightlifting team, is set to leave for Kenya to engage in a two-week coaching course.
The training was sponsored by the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has supported the deputy coach of the national weightlifting team, Abubakari Taylor for a two weeks coaching course in Nairobi, Kenya.
The course, organised by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA) with IWF certified instructor Kyle Pierce who also doubles as the technical director of GWF as lecturer is under the theme ‘Coaches Education Training Course’.
Over 16 countries are participating in the two weeks programme.
According to the President of GWF, Mr Ben Nunoo-Mensah the coach will be equipped with the necessary skills to beef up the technical team of Ghana Weightlifting.
He said after the course the coach will be attached to the University of Ghana Sports Directorate to supervise weightlifting.
Coach Taylor will also be in charge of the youth development program of GWF in which the president explained that the program is targeted at the youth below the age of 13years.
In recent times, Ghana Weightlifting Federation has upgraded the technical know-how of about 27 coaches and the federation can boost of IWF certified Class 2 coaches.
Mr Nunoo-Mensah noted that after the training, Coach Abubakar Taylor will be the first Ghanaian weightlifting coach to earn the IWF certified Class 1 coaches’ licence.
