The exciting and unpredictable Premier League season is coming to a close very soon with it's last match on the 12th of May 2019. The two top teams, Manchester City and Liverpool, have been entangled in a fierce battle for quite some time now and neither team seems like it's going to slip up.

The defending champions, Manchester City, seemed determined and refreshed as they come closer and closer to winning the trophy. Many star players like Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have been putting on their best performances, while the Reds having players like Virgil Van Dijk (PFA's Player of the Year) and Mo Salah (top goal-scorer this season with 21 goals) are not in any mood to back down.

Currently, the standings consist of Manchester City on top with 92 whopping points and Liverpool are just a point behind with 91 points. This is the first time in Premier League history that two teams have reached 90 points in the same season and have just a difference of a single point between each other. It gets a bit tricky for the Reds at this point since they desperately need a draw or a loss from the Blues in order to become the Premier League champions. No doubt, fans at Anfield are constantly praying for a slip up from Man City as Liverpool have not won the Premier League title in 29 years.

However, nothing is impossible and things are a bit hopeful for Liverpool. The Reds have many star players and an amazing coach, Jurgen Klopp, who Lee Sharpe compares to having the same impact as Sir Alex Ferguson on Manchester United. He claims Liverpool have unbelievable pace that is built for hitting teams on the counter, as well as a very strong spine that will out power the vast majority of teams while still maintaining control in midfield.

Sir Alex Ferguson knew that defences and goalkeepers decide who win the Premier League and Klopp addressed both those issues with world record fees on van Dijk and Alisson. Those two will be every bit as responsible for winning the Premier League as Mane and Salah.

Can we expect a play-off between Liverpool and Manchester City? It is possible. If both clubs finish joint on points, the winner will be determined according to goal difference. If the goal difference is level as well, then the teams will be able to have an exhilarating play-off! This has never happened before in the Premier League history but there's a first time for everything.

Nonetheless, it's been a great race this season and it is safe to stay that whichever club emerges as the champions, definitely are deserving.
