Accra, Jan. 17, GNA - Wienco Ghana Limited, an importer and distributor of fertilizers and agrochemicals, is giving away 16,000 tickets to all Cocoa Abrabopa Association (CAA) farmers and clients as part of efforts to support Ghana's bid to win the CAN 2008 football fiesta.

On the average, 500 free tickets per match would be given to CAA farmers and clients in good standing with Wienco for all the Ghana 2008 matches at the four stadiums hosting the tournament. Mr William Kotey, General Manager of Wienco told newsmen in Accra on Thursday that apart from the free tickets, the company would also bear the cost of movement of all farmers with tickets to and from the stadium, as well as cater for their meals and accommodation. However, the offer, which is limited to the availability of tickets, would be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Mr. Kotey said the company was extremely proud of the relationship it had established with Ghana football over the years, and was happy to embrace the competition by providing free tickets for as many farmers as possible, who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to attend any of the matches.

"We believe that this is an excellent way to show our support for Ghanaian farmers and our unflinching support for our beloved Black Stars. "Wienco believes in Ghana and wishes our Ghana Black Stars the best of luck to win the tournament", he said. He asked all CAA farmers to contact their local representatives or a Wienco official in their areas to get details on how to collect their tickets. Since the privatization of fertilizer import by government, Wienco has been the biggest importer of fertilizers into the country. It has been providing credit facilities in the form of fertilizers, agrochemicals and other inputs to organized farming groups such as cotton companies and licensed Buying Companies to be repaid after harvest of their crops. Cocoa farmers under the Wienco's CAA programme are educated and advised on how to rehabilitate and constantly maintain their existing cocoa farms to bring their trees to the fullest bearing potential. The programme has been credited to be the catalyst for the increased cocoa yield, by the application of specially formulated fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides imported by Wienco. 17 Jan. 08
