Winneba Boxing Club to be inaugurated

Cape Coast, Oct. 26, GNA - The Winneba Boxing Club will be officially inaugurated at the main lorry station at Winneba, on Saturday November 5, 2005.

Mr Twintoh Walker, Chairman of the Central Region branch of the Ghana Boxing Authority, who disclosed this to the GNA on Monday, said the inauguration would be marked with an amateur boxing tournament between clubs from the Greater Accra and Central Region. The tournament to be sponsored by the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, Gods Grace Enterprise, Radio Windy Bay, Radio Peace, Winneba and the National Sports College would feature crack boxers like Lightweight Zoya, Light Middle Weight, Nana Abaka and Feather Weight, Emmanuel Halm, all from the Central Region.

Mr Walker appealed to district assemblies, business executives and all lovers of the sport both inside and outside the region for support and to contribute towards the promotion of boxing at Winneba and the Region.

He said that the inauguration formed part of the Regional Boxing Authority's outreach programme to revive boxing in the districts. Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister for Education and Sport, Mr Samuel Owusu-Adjei, MP for Efuttu and Mr Moses Foe-Amoaning, Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority are among the dignitaries invited to grace the function.
