Winneba, June 10, GNA - The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has offered Ms Emma Cudjoe, the Under 17 National Women's Tennis champion a month's training tour to South Africa. Mr Dominic Asabia, Director of the Winneba National Sports College told the GNA Sports that management of the College was in contact with the Ghana Tennis Association (GTA) to ensure that the aspiring star player does not miss the golden opportunity to improve on her performance. He called on the support of individuals and organisations to enable the College groom more talented academically endowed sportsmen and women academicals to excel in their fields.

Meanwhile, the College in conjunction with the GTA and the Ghana Education Service is to organise a holiday training session for talented tennis players between the ages of 8-10 years to be drawn from the 10 Regions. Mr Asabia therefore urged Regional Physical Education Co-ordinators and Chairmen of Tennis Clubs to assist in the selection exercise. He said the training session would start during the long vacation and had been grouped into three zones, namely Central, Western and Greater Accra Regions for Zone One, the Eastern, Ashanti, Volta and Brong Ahafo Regions for Zone Two with the Northern, Upper West and Upper East Regions in Zone Three.

The Director said parents of the selected players would be expected to pay for the cost of the training while the organisers pay for the food and accommodation among others. Mr Noah Bukari, tennis coach of the NSC has meanwhile appealed to other coaches to be fair and honest and to ensure that players are made to play in their correct age groups. He said that over-aged players who are made to play in the lower age groups because of their structure or appearance often cheat and discourage and prevent the younger talented ones from continuing with any further training.
