Women’s football in Ghana doesn’t pay - Abambila

Ghana’s female U-20 midfielder, Ernestina Ama Abambila has revealed how difficult it’s for women to make a living out of football arguing that, women’s football in the country doesn’t pay.

The 19-year-old said the only avenue women can use to get something out of football is to play for the various national teams and qualifying for international competitions but outside that, women don’t stand the chance of really earning anything substantial from the game.

The FC Minsk midfielder advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to seek step up their efforts to put women’s football on their front burner of their agenda.

“Women’s football in Ghana doesn’t pay. Unless one represents the nation at the world’s stage [or in other international competitions], it’s very difficult to make money out of the game” he told Takoradi based Spice FM in an interview.

She further revealed how her mum chastised her for opting to play football. “My mum was against my profession from the early stages. She said I won’t give birth when I continue playing. My dad was in support of what I was doing when I started from my early stages” Abambila disclosed.
