The World Boxing Council (WBC) has adopted Tsiyinu Ando, a farming community in the Volta Region of Ghana for development projects in sports, education and health.

Mr Rodrigo Cobo, WBC Ambassador, has therefore presented a WBC replica belt to the chief of the community as a “symbol of adoption.”

The project is in collaboration with Adanu, a development focused non-governmental organization and will cover health, education and sanitation, under the Sustainable Development Goals three, four and six.

Mr Cobo said the project is the first in the world and would be implemented in other countries soon, and that, every year, a WBC Champion would volunteer to do a project in the community in health, education, sanitation or sports.

Mr Robert Tornu, Director of Community Coordination, Adanu, said the projects would change the face of the community and open it up for development.

Mr Ken Andrews Ayivoo, an Opinion Leader in the community expressed gratitude to WBC for the initiative and said the community was happy to be the “chosen one”.

Mr Rockson Deafeamekpor, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for South Dayi, who played key roles in the adoption process, reiterated government’s commitment to the District and Tsiyinu Ando in particular.

He assured the people of government’s support for the projects and that all uncompleted projects would be finished soon.

Mr Cobo also presented miniature WBC belts to Mr Deafeamekpor and Adanu for their contribution towards socio-economic developments in the communities.
