Tue, 15 Jul 1997 Source: --

Sekondi (W/R), July 14, - Centre forward skipper John Ainoo powered the Western Show Boys, Sekondi Eleven Wise, to a 3-0 win over local rivals, Police Stars, in their first division league match The game kicked off on a fast note with Police Stars, who claimed to have learnt the ''multi system'' football from Policeman and national coach Sam Arday, giving early indication of their determination to carry the day. They mounted a sustained pressure on Wise but all their attempts at goal were thwarted by the strong Wise defence. Wise, who were not disturbed by the early onslaught of their opponents, wormed themselves into the game and succeeded in forcing the tide in their favour. After testing the Police defence for some time, free-scoring Ainoo netted for Wise in the 44th minute. Police returned the attack almost immediately but they could not find the net till half time. On resumption, Wise invaded the goal area of their opponents and deservedly increased their lead when Ainoo scored the second goal in the 50th minute. The goal momentrarily demoralised the Police boys but they managed to fight back gamely. Ainoo, who was too slippery for the Police defence should have scored a hat-trick in the 62nd minute but with only their opponent's goalie to beat, he shot over the bar. Inside left Ebo Mensah however sealed the doom of the Police with a goal in the 70th minute.
