Yeboah wins Tafo Open Golf

New Tafo (E/R), Dec. 6, GNA - Kwabena Yeboah returned a gross score of 173 to win this year's Tafo Open Golf Championship, which ended at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) Golf Course at Tafo in the Eastern Region on Saturday. He was followed by Awudu Holler with a gross score of 148, and Ernest Amali, who took the third position with 149 gross, beating Joe Daglo on count-back while Francis Akafo came fifth with 151 gross.

In the ladies segment, Mona Myles-Lamptey retained the trophy she won last year when she scored 173 gross. Grace Afriyie took the second position with 178 gross while Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong placed third with 183 gross.

In the Men's Handicap event, Kwasi Appiah came first with 143 gross, beating Mike Aggrey on count-back while Kweku Okyere took the third position with 145 gross. The two-day 36-Hole Scratch event which was opened to amateur golfers throughout the country and was sponsored by U.T. Financial Services, attracted about 100 golfers. The occasion was also used to honour Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin and to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his ascension to the throne.

Dr. Felix Frempong, President of the Ghana Golf Association, said the association had developed a programme to enable junior golfers to develop their talents. Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Chief Executive of U.T. Financial Services, who is also President of the Tafo Golf Club, said that the company would continue to support the development of the game in the country adding that more competitions would be organised in honour of Okyenhene. Osagyefo Ofori Panin encouraged women and children to take interest in the sport.
