Mr. Abdul Majeed Bawa, the former Acting Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has described the position as "slippery and challenging" one, as the new Director-General prepares to begin work at the NSA.

Mr. Bawa made this known in Accra, during the induction ceremony of Professor Peter Twumasi, the newly appointed Director-General of the NSA.

"It is a very nice place to work, but equally "slippery and challenging,” to quote President Akufo-Addo.

“Professor Twumasi, you are welcome to the hot seat. You can count on me for support and advise anytime or anyday," he said.

According to Mr Bawa, who has now reverted to his original position as Deputy Director General, in charge of Administration, the job at the NSA was a challenging one, which needed an open minded person to handle in order to ensure the development of sports in the country.

He was however confident that, the new Director-General would be able to fit in perfectly and lead the NSA to reach the ultimate goal of sports development in Ghana.

“It was a wonderful period for me from April this year to date, I joined the service as a Deputy General in February and the then DG had to travel immediately, so the mantle fell on me to act at a time I had just assumed office.

“And upon his return, few weeks after the Commonwealth Games, we had problems at hand and he was suspended and i was handed the mantle and since then, i have been acting in that capacity till today.

“I have had wonderful people working with but it is a very challenging job. Sometimes you have to be open minded to deal with everybody.

Professor Twumasi, in his acceptance speech expressed gratitude to the President of Ghana and also congratulated Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports, for his role in the development of sports in the country.

He pledged to operate in fairness and collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the NSA.

“There would be an atmosphere of cooperation with all members and I say that with fairness, we would as a country be heightened to the accomplishment of winning sports titles and medals both outside the country and within Ghana.

“I therefore accept this position and I plead with all members to provide me with all necessary support and with God on our side I believe, we shall succeed.
