Young Stars Cycling Club of Accra showed consistency with their performance by winning four of the awards at the fifth stage of the 2012 Cowbell National Cycling Tour in Tamale.
The 15-lap criterion circuit race of 94.5 kilometers involving 63 riders from 12 clubs started in the Northern Regional capital with the SG-SSB as the starting point through the Library Junction towards the regional hospital road up to the Taysec Junction, Vittim and back to the starting point.
Isaac Sackey of Young Stars won the ultimate Yellow Jersey for the Best by Time award and the White Jersey for the Youngest by Time award, whilst his club mate Samuel Anim took the Red and Green Jerseys for the Best fighter and Best by Point award to put the club on higher footing of the tour.
Die Hard Cycling Club won the Blue Jersey for the Best Team award in the race which started with 63 riders with only 28 managing to complete the race.
The tour attracted an enthusiastic crowd as they cheered their only local idol Mohamed Aminu Osman of Pace Setters Cycling Club of Tamale and captain of the National Cycling Team.
Osman did not disappoint the home fans as he ensured he was among the front runners throughout the 15-lap race and finally placed third at the end.
Dennis Moore, Communications Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation told the GNA Sports that, the tour was designed to test the power, strength and endurance of the riders.
He said the overall winner will receive GH¢6,000 as his prize.
Meanwhile, Henry Tetteh Djamgbah, the defending champion is yet to show his class as the tour enters the sixth and seventh stages on Monday with an 80 kilometer race from Buipe to Kintampo as well as 107 kilometer race from Techiman to Kumasi.
The National Cowbell Cycling Tour that will cover eight regions is under the sponsorship of Promasidor Ghana Limited, Bic, Multi Media Group, with support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) and the National Sports Authority (NSA).**
