The rich and unique culture of the people of Yendi was on full display at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of Youth Resource Centre in the Northern Region
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah has for the past couple of months toured every region in the country, taking the government's sports infrastructure plan to the people and assuring the youth of the government's belief in them.
The Minister on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 capped off his sod cutting exercises with a grand ceremony in Yendi.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, Isaac Asiamah said: "The president, Nana Addo wants me to let you know that Yendi will receive its share of the national cake; that is the multipurpose sports complex. This projects seeks to create jobs for the youth."
Traditional leaders of Yendi, Naa Mahamadu Abdulai, Bolin-Lana as well as the regent of Dagbon, Kampakuyanaa in separate words through an interpreters said "Government has lived up to its word, this facility when completed will go a long way to support the youth. Its a major phase lift and l would like to urge the youth to take advantage of it. The President believes in youth development. Yendi has produced quality and intelligent people."
Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saed expressed joy for the yet-to-be constructed facility taking into account the use of sports to break the chain of poverty.
The 5000-seater edifice which is estimated at $1.8m is expected to be completed in nine months.
Like the others, the facility will accommodate a FIFA standard pitch, eight lane athletics lane, ICT/Entrepreneurship, Counseling Centres, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, a modern restaurant, washrooms, maintenance unit and flood lights when completed.
