Kumasi, Feb. 26, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has tasked its Player Status Committee, to launch a probe into circumstances that led to the 'fraudulent' transfer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko's former striker, Shilla Alhassan who is believed to be now plying his trade in Gabon.
The GFA said it had not officially issued any International Transfer Certificate (ITC) to enable the player pass through the due process in his transfer as regulated by the Association to make him eligible to play for a foreign club.
Mr George Amoako, a member of the Executive Committee of the GFA said this at a press conference organized by a group calling itself the Concerned Sports Broadcasters of Ghana in Kumasi.
"We are therefore treating the issue as a crime and shall get to the bottom, flush out and bring to book those behind the falsification of documents that enabled the player to be illegally transferred", Mr Amoako, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of King Faisal football club, said the GFA frowned upon illegal transfer of players since the practice deprived the Association and their clubs their due share of monies of the contract.
He said the GFA was optimistic in unraveling the mystery behind Shilla's transfer, stressing that intelligence report indicate that he is currently playing for FC 105 in Gabon under a different name. Mr Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh, a former Kotoko Deputy Interim Management Team (IMT) member in-charge of Operations, called on the GFA to critically look at the issue in order to ensure justice in football administration in the country.
He regretted that the GFA was hesitant in probing the transfer even though the IMT had petitioned the Association as to how the player was "smuggled" out of the country without the knowledge of Kotoko.
