Tema Youth plan to prune their squad ahead of the second round of the premiership and one of the notable causalities on the list is former national star, Awudu Issaka.

Awudu Issaka has had less playing time with the premiership debutants. An ankle injury has also contributed to his confinement on the sidelines.

But club insiders say, the player hasn?t been focused on playing even though his injury has healed.

The player has only featured in one league game during Tema Youth?s away fixture at the Swedru park where they played Feyenoord Academy. Awudu Issaka was taken off in the course of the game.

Some fourteen players would be leaving the club as Tema Youth struggles to keep a much smaller squad.

After the exercise, Tema Youth would be left with 20 players.

However, the club would be shopping for some five players to increase the squad size to 25.

Awudu Issaka after an unsuccessful spell in Europe over a decade ago returned to the country to continue with his playing career.

His earlier attempts at securing a deal with Liberty Professionals fell through but Awudu Issaka managed to conclude negotiations and sign a contract with Tema Youth.

A promising career took off with the Black Starlets, as Issaka was a key member of the team that won the FIFA/JVC Under-17 title in Ecuador.

He was a member of the Black Satellites side that finished fourth at the 1997 FIFA/Coca-Cola World Youth Championship in Malaysia.

Awudu Issaka had the chance to begin his European career a decade ago with Belgian side, RSC Anderlecht but the youngster failed to hold down a regular position.

He was soon showed the exit and he landed a deal with Auxerre in France where he enjoyed some success until a move to 1860 Munich where he made a number of Bundesliga appearances.

He faded out from the top flight and ended in the reserve side of the German outfit.

And now a stint in the domestic league appears to have come to end but not on a good note.
