Foreign-based players play Liberty on Saturday

Accra, June 28, GNA - A select side of foreign-based players currently holidaying in the country will engage premiership side, Liberty Professionals on Saturday, June 30 at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park in the maiden edition of the annual Danny Whyte and Ivor Buford (DWIB) Leukaemia Fund Raising event.

The game is to raise funds to support the DWIB Leukaemia Trust as well as to sustain the awareness of Leukaemia in the country. A Press release signed Ed Gerber, Vice Chairperson of the DWIB Leukaemia Trust copied to the GNA Sports said that proceeds from the match will used for activities including setting up a fund to support the treatment of Leukaemia patients at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

Mr Gerber said that his outfit will also soon embark on an advocacy programme that would seek to create awareness of the disease to the public, especially in Second Cycle and Tertiary institutions. Some of the players expected to feature for the Foreign-based team include Chelsea midfield icon, Michael Essien, Mohammed Gargo, Augustine Arhinful, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Moses Sakyi, Razak Ibrahim, Ahmed Barusso, Anthony Yeboah, John Paintsil, Peter Ofori-Quaye and Asamoah Gyan.

Others are Kwame Ayew, Baffour Gyan, Haminu Dramani, Joe Tex Frimpong, Emmanuel Duah, Baba "Armando" Adamu, Samuel Osei Kuffuor, Prince Tagoe and Hamza Mohammed.

A minute's silence will be observed for the late Danny Whyte, founder of the DWIB Leukaemia Trust in Ghana who died last May in London.
