Accra, July 18, GNA - Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports has warned persons using the Supporters Unions for business to cut short their adventure or face the music. The Deputy Minister told the GNA Sports that "supporters unions are not for business and persons who have abandoned their profession for that must be careful, because the law will soon catch up with them." He cautioned the public to be wary of fraudsters making the rounds and collecting money with the promise of securing them visas to travel for sporting activities.
"The public must be cautious of those who come claiming they can secure visa to enable them patronize any sporting event." Mr Amoah has recently been accused by the Ghana National Supporters Union (GHANSU) and Supporters Union of Ghana (SUGHA) for ordering the Algerian Embassy not to issue visa to supporters who wished to travel to the 9th All Africa Games underway in Algiers.
He described the allegations as ridiculous, and wondered "how on earth anyone could assume I have the powers to issue instructions of that nature to a whole Foreign Embassy".
He told the GNA Sports that no one approached the Ministry for assistance and quizzed the motive behind the accusations. The two bodies last week threatened to demonstrate against the Deputy Minister claiming he was the reason why their visa requests were turned down.
GHANSU had previously enjoyed the Ministry's fullest support making their current accusation a bit odd.
