Dede Ayew Declined Invitation

Andre Dede Pele

VICE-President of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe, has described as interesting comments made by Andre Dede Ayew, son of Ghanaian legend Abedi Ayew 'Pele' to the effect that he will chose to play for France if Ghana fails to call him any time soon.

Mr Pappoe said this was an unfortunate issue as the 17-year-old has turned down a couple of invitations to play for Ghana’s Under 17 team the Black Starlets.

"The FA has letters to prove that he has been invited before," Mr Pappoe told this paper in Accra yesterday, adding that he turned down those opportunities claiming to be injured.

"It can therefore not be true that Dede Ayew who signed a professional contract with French Liquie I side Olympique Marseille in May, has never been invited to play for Ghana", he added.

Our sources at the FA offices in Accra revealed that the player was called up to prepare for the world Under 17 championships in Peru in 2005, but reported injured prior to the start of preparations and did not turn up for the event.

The FA, Mr Pappoe continued, will keep its door open to any player of Ghanaian identity who expresses interest in playing for the nation and would be promptly invited if the technical handlers inform them of any such motive.
