Black Queens win friendly matches

Takoradi, July 23, GNA - The Black Queens, The senior national women's soccer team, the Black Queens at the weekend beat Western and Central Regional Select teams 3-1 and 1-0 in two separate friendly matches at Takoradi.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), Western Regional Football Association and the Western and Central Regional Women League Committee organised the matches as warm-up encounters for the Queens as part of their preparations towards their preparations for the World Cup and the Olympic Games.

In the first match, Anita Amankwah shot the Queens in the 26th minute made up of mainly newly recruited players as the second string side. Amankwah went ahead to score the second goal in the 32nd minute while Adjoa Bayor topped up the scores in the 40th minute. Matilda Dadzie reduced the goal tally the Western and Central Regional Select Team in the 55th minute.

In the second match, Safra Abdul Rahman scored the only goal for the Queens in the 20th minute, which was made up of the senior players.

Speaking in an interview with GNA Sports, coach of Queens Isaac Paha, said the team was determined to qualify for the Olympic Games and to improve on its performance in the previous World Cup. He said a number of foreign-based players would be invited soon to beef up the team and for a concerted training regimen. Coach Paha called on the sporting public and all Ghanaians to lend their support to the team to enable it raise the high the flag of the country.
