Siasia's camp is empty

Samson Siasia seems close to frustration as club have refused to release players to the Olympic football team camp.

The camp opened on Monday in Lagos but Siasia said that he had just himself and his officials present as at Tuesday afternoon, a development not too good in his reckoning.

"It is funny that I am the only one in this camp with my officials. No player has turned up yet even though they are all aware that they should have been here yesterday ," Siasia stressed.

"The clubs know this is a national assignment and we need their players. The players also know too and that is why I am surprised with this kind of response."

"I know the clubs want to use the players for their game this weekend, but they must also understand how serious what we are doing is. If they show up in camp, they will surely be allowed to travel back to join their clubs but we need them first for preparations.

"We will qualify for the Olympic Games but we need more commitment from our clubs and players to help us achieve that. I am still confident that we will have a lot of players in camp by weekend.

"I am appealing to clubs who have players on my list to release them for this national assignment since we are all Nigerians and will share the glory of success together," Siasia said.

Nigeria's Under-23 side are up against their the black meteors on November 17 2007 and Nigeria need at least a draw to have any reasonable chance of qualifying for next year's Olympic Games.

If Nigeria avoids a loss in Ghana, they will then need to beat the South Africans at home to ensure their qualification.
