Koforidua, Nov. 28, GNA - The Eastern Regional Chairman of the Regional Football Association (RFA), Mr Lawal Ganiyu has said that the country needs experienced and well trained soccer coaches to teach the up and coming youth the rudiments of the sport to enable it to maintain it's achievements in soccer.
Mr Ganiyu therefore appealed to trained coaches in the Eastern Region to sacrifice to ensure the growth and development of the sport and to encourage the youth to take their chosen profession. The Chairman said this at a preparatory meeting organized towards the establishment of a regional Soccer Coaches Association at Koforidua on Tuesday.
He called on coaches to work hand in hand with the District Sports Development Officers to ensure the development of soccer in their districts and schools and assured them of the support of the RFA. Nicholas Dwomo, Eastern Regional Secretary of the Ghana Referees Association called on the coaches to ensure that they instill discipline in their players and urged them to teach the players the rules and laws of football to guide them as to how to conduct themselves on the playing field.
He added that the game of football becomes interesting when the players are disciplined on the field of play and abide by the basic rules of the game.
Mr Dwomo said that it is against the rules of the game for players to wear rings, necklaces and bangles during matches and in the field of play, adding that they should advise their players against removal of their jerseys in celebrating their scoring goals. The Regional Chairman of the Coaches Association, Mr Mohammed Abdulai Aziz said arrangements are far advanced to make retired football players to train pupils of some basic schools in the region to help in the development of soccer.
He expressed the hope that the arrangement would soon be extended to the coaches to enable them impart their knowledge of the sport to the youth.
Mr Abu Braimah, a member of the association called on the numerous soccer coaches in the region to register with the association so as to benefit from the training regimen being developed to update the skills of coaches in the region. 28 Nov. 07
