Accra, July 31, GNA - Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Moses Foh-Amoaning has allayed security fears ahead of the Boxing Bonanza scheduled for the Lebanon Club House, Accra on Saturday, August 1. Ghana's Galley Cudjoe is expected to fight Nigerian Felix Friday for the vacant IBF Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title in the topmost bill and Foh-Amoaning insists his outfit has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure an incident-free championship. At a press conference on Thursday, the GBA Chairman emphasized the importance of the championship was unprecedented in the annals of Ghana boxing which will serve as a great challenge and was optimistic the task was surmountable.
"We have also put in place all the necessary administrative logistics towards a successful organization."
Al Hamilton, promoter of the event described it as a new dawn in Ghana's boxing history, which will be immensely beneficial t to the rest of Africa.
He reiterated that security fears will be well handled and cautioned the boxers and handlers to advise the fans to comport themselves before, during and after the event. Michael Yamson, General Manager of Gateway Broadcast Services, (GBS) sponsors of the event commended the GBA for the initiative and pledged its support for future events. GBS, a dynamic Pan-Africa pay-Television satellite service will broadcast live the event across the continent on their "G Sports 2" channel.
In other pairings, Lartey Lartey will face compatriot Isaac Quartey in a Commonwealth Super Lightweight final eliminator while Albert Mensah slugs it out against Dragon Kidega of Uganda for the vacant Africa Boxing Union (ABU) Super Lightweight title. Mohammed Akrong will also battle Karame Nyilawile of Tanzania for the ABU Middleweight title.
In the supporting bouts, Kofi Manu will face Obodai Sai in a Welterweight contest, Samuel Amoako and Peter Musa would contest for the National Lightweight title while John Napari battles Sugar Ray Acquaye for the National Light heavyweight title. The weigh-in for the fights has been fixed for Friday, August 1 at the High Gate Hotel, Asylun Down in Accra.
