Accra, Nov. 28, GNA - Ghanaian referee Mercy Tagoe has been selected to officiate the final match of the 6th Africa Women's Championship (AWC) between hosts Equatorial Guinea and South Africa. The game takes place on Saturday, November 29 at the Nuevo Estadio in Malabo.

A source close to Referee's Committee of the tourney told GNA Sports that Tagoe was selected after her exemplary interpretation of the rules of the game in earlier games.

The source added that the 30-year old will be assisted by Ndah Tempa of Benin and Rakotozafinoro of Madagascar, with Senegalese Fadouma Dia of Senegal acting as the fourth referee.

Her appointment gives the nation a representation at the tournament which the Black Queens exited at the group phase, their worst since its inception in 1998.

Tagoe, mother of two and an official of the Ghana National Fire Service was voted the best referee on the local scene in 2006. The former Black Queens defender, joined the "knights of the whistle" after hanging her boots few years ago.

Incidentally, she was a member of the Black Queens squad that participated at the maiden edition of the biennial championship in 1998 in Nigeria. 28 Nov. 08
