WHAT started as a perfect working relationship between the Sylvester Asare-Owsu led Kotoko management and 2000 CAF Champions League winner, Emmanuel “General” Osei Kuffour has taken a different twist after the former Hearts and AshantiGold ace launched an astonishing broadside at the club's top hierarchy. It will be recalled that Osei Kuffour has been in a contractual fall-out with Kotoko for some time now in a quest to extend his current contract which ran out this past Saturday. Difficulties emerged as Kuffour wanted a two-year extension whilst Kotoko tabled the veteran striker a “take it or leave it” one year deal. As a result, Kuffour's refusal to sign the new deal has seen him inch closer to joining Libyan club side Al-Ittihad in a deal speculated to be worth around $250,000.

In an interview with 90 MINUTES, Osei Kuffour who was responding to the “low level of committment” accusations from George Amoako (Kotoko's Director of Finance) was aggrieved with the comments made by the Kotoko supremo. He said: “Why should George Amoako say that I was not committed to the Kotoko cause? I was committed in every step that the team took in attaining the trophies that we won last season. For him (George Amoako) to say that clearly shows how ungrateful he is since everyone in the team would testify to the high sense of commitment and professionalism I showed in my days with Kotoko.” Looking ahead, he said: “My contract with Kotoko has ran out (17th January) and I'm now a free agent now so I intend to look elsewhere. I could be joining Al-Ittihad since they have showed the desire to rope me into their fold. I thank the Kotoko fans for the enormous support given to me throughout my stay with the club.” he added.
