Left winger Robert Eshun, known in soccer circles as ‘Ebo Electric’ has told “Where are they?” in an interview that he still plays active football. According to the former Asante Kotoko/Corners Babies forward, he has grown to become a better player than he used to be.
He however admitted that: “I am not as fast as before, but I have acquired much experience over the years. The more I play, the more experience I become.”
Explaining why he was nicknamed ‘Ebo Electric’, he told Mr Charles Osei Asibey, Happy FM that: “I was nicknamed ‘Ebo Electric’ because of my dribbling skills.
When I dribble past a player, you have no choice but get stucked at where I went past you, it was like an electric shock.”
A play mate of Thomas Boakye, Joe Debrah, Frimpong Manso, Michael Osei, Emmanuel Ampea, Sarfo Gyamfi, Stanley Aborah etc, Ebo electric has toured many European countries spending most of his soccer career in Belgium. Speaking on “Where are they?” , he said that he is gearing up for Malaysia’s next soccer season league, after staying off the pitch for two season owing to injury. And when asked whether he will opt for any local premier team if approached, he mentioned that: “Of course yes if the offer is good.” He pointed out that defending league champions Aduana Stars’ coach Herbert Addo has already expressed interest in his services for the Africa Champions League. “Coach Herbert Addo has approached me in that regard, but there has been anything binding and official about the deal, “ he said. He is currently in the country and had completed a License ‘B’ Coaching course held at Prampram which assembled some of the country’s finest trainers(Old and young). Eshun noted that attending the License ‘B’ coaching course was a dream come true saying, “It has always been my dream to become a coach after quitting soccer. “News of Odartey, CK Akunnor’s coaching job really triggered my faith, and decided to take up the course in London but when contacted coach Akwasi Appiah he recommended the Prampram Course which is equivalent to the UEFA License ‘B’ course,” he added.
He recollects with nostalgic memories his two goals in Kotoko’s 4-2 victory over Hearts and Kotoko’s defeat to Algeria’s 1-2 on aggregate in the African Cup Championship.
“We scored JSK 1-0 in Kumasi but we lost painfully 0-2 in Algiers, I wept from Algiers to Accra because our sponsors had promised us a car each if we had won. We were confident we were going to go past them to the final because we had a formidable side,” added Eshun.
