Last Sunday at the El-Wak sports stadium was a Rugby Football fiesta GALA which saw 8 teams taking part in the competition. The one-day Rugby Gala was organised by the Greater Accra Rugby Assocation led by Mr. Frank Boahene the chairman for the association.
Here are the results: Abura Bombers Team "A" trashed their team "B" counterparts by 20 trials to 5. University of Ghana Rugby Team also beat Oguaman Ocean Warriors by 25 trails to 0.
Accra Sharks beat Floreat Academy by12 trials to 0. whilst Oguaman Ocean Warriors beat their Floreat Academy by 27 trials to 5. University of Ghana Rugby Team beat Accra Sharks by 22trails to 5 to lift the ultimate trophy.Accra Sharks were 2nd who also received a trophy and cash prize. In the women s category,Abura Bombers Ladies emerged winners and also received a trophy.Mr Frank Boahene said he was highly delighted the way Ghanaians have welcomed the sport looking at over a thousand supporters who trooped to El-Wak to watch the game not forgetting the DIE HARD SUPPORTERS UNION OF GHANA who were there in national colours to cheer the teams up. He said Rugby in the next one or two years to come will gain a slot to participate in the Olympic games since Rugby Union is now being played as an Olympic sport. Mrs Gifty Annan Meiyers who is the national chairperson for Rugby also added that her outfit will ensure that Rugby League will be played early next year and hope it will gain the attraction of corporate bodies and companies for sponsorships. She used the platform to express gratitude to the headline sponsors, Green Grass Technology for making it a success. Also, Standard Water, Accra Brewery Limited, GLICO Insurance and PRO Security as well as their media partners and all who made it possible.
