Everyone (in both the public & private sector) works, pay taxes and enjoy their rewards. When bad or hard times hit, then some claim they did it for the nation. Are the ordinary, and diligent nurses, teachers, policemen, soldiers, etc not serving the nation? Why is it that after politicians and the like have collected their monies, they still "cry" for the state to come to their aid? Who comes to the aid of the retired and sick teacher or nurse?

Who is responsible for Ali Jarra - what makes him more deserving of being cared for by the state than my father, for example, who has served Ghana faithfully in his own way, and whose hospital and other bills I am taking care off without expecting anyone to step in? How do we assess and decide on these situations in a way that is fair to all citizens?
